In honour of international women’s day, here at Russell & Russell Solicitors, we are proud to share a success story of an amazing previous member of our team, who has gone on to become the youngest senior coroner in England and Wales. Bolton born and bred Rachael Griffin has set no bounds when it comes to her career and has followed her passion every step of the way.

Rachael trained with us at Russell and Russell and was a solicitor in our criminal department, specialising in criminal defence cases and prison law, before moving to her first assistant coroner position in Bolton in June 2014.

During her tenure in Bolton, Rachael issued 12 ‘preventing future death’ reports designed to challenge and change practices to prevent future avoidable fatalities.

Her recommendations have prompted the improvement of medicine-issuing procedures in care homes and increased security and safety around local railway lines.

Before taking up her role running the Dorset’s Coroner’s office in 2016, Rachael said at the time,

“I have always been interested in medicine and law and at university, I completed one of the medical law options on my course and I decided to go into law and then become a solicitor. When this opportunity arose, it was the perfect time to apply.”

“I’m very grateful for the help I have had from the coroner’s officers and staff. We’ll be sad to leave Bolton, family and friends behind and I’m very excited about the new challenge.”

As there are only 92 coronial districts, opportunities like that do not arise very often and meant that it likely made Rachael the youngest in the country to be given the senior coroner role.

We are so very proud to of had such an inspirational woman such as Rachael be a part of our team at Russell & Russell, and have enjoyed hearing about the incredible work she has continued to do.

It is those who think ahead, plan well, and react positively to change who are the ones that thrive and prosper. Here at Russell & Russell, we think to do that you have to have the right team in place. The right people drive our business forward, not only to meet the challenges we face as a collective but also to make our firm stronger. Is this you? If you think you have got what it takes, we would be interested to hear from you. Visit our website https://www.russellrussell.co.uk/ to find out more information about our current vacancies.
