The Family Law team at Russell & Russell are pleased to support Resolution in their “Good Divorce Week” 2022 (28 Nov – 2 Dec 2022), where they will be kickstarting a campaign to highlight the crisis in the family courts. The 2022 campaign is also aimed at raising awareness of how families can resolve their disputes away from Court, minimising conflict and distress. Good Divorce Week is an annual initiative run by Resolution, the membership organisation for professionals that work with separating families, raising awareness of different focus points each year.

Resolution was founded in 1982 by a group of family lawyers who believed that a non-confrontational approach to family law issues would produce better outcomes for separating families and their children. The Resolution’s Code of Practice focuses on a constructive approach to family issues, tackling the needs of the whole family, but especially resolving cases in the best interests of children caught up in a dispute.

The family law team at Russell & Russell have been longstanding members of Resolution and we look forward to supporting them again this year in the ‘Ending the Family Court Crisis’ campaign.

Family Court Crisis

The family courts are overstretched and facing huge backlogs, dealing with numerous listings and lengthy administrative tasks. Despite the best efforts of court staff, families are frequently left with long wait times to sort out finances and children arrangements. Resolution and many family law legal professionals believe that they could resolve more cases without going to Court (where it is safe and appropriate to do so) if the government funded early legal advice. It would ensure that those cases that need to be resolved by Court can be dealt with promptly.
