"Judith's personal communication was excellent. Thank you."
Judith is the former managing partner of the practice and, following her retirement on 30 April 2023, she now works as a Consultant Solicitor in the wills and probate department and is based at our Newport Street Office
Judith completed her law degree and solicitors finals at Leeds University in 1985 and 1986 respectively, qualified as a solicitor in 1988, and joined Russell & Russell in 1990.
Her passion for probate and court of protection work enabled Judith to grow a successful team of solicitors, legal executives and paralegals who offer a comprehensive service 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition to acting for clients with wills and probate requirements, the department also provides specialist advice for older and vulnerable clients.
Her drive to provide excellence as standard led the department to become the first legal practice in the Bolton area, and one of the first in the North West region, to have been awarded the prestigious Wills and Inheritance Quality Scheme (WIQS) accreditation. This is the Law Society's standard for delivering tailored wills and probate advice and sets the benchmark for best practice and transparency in the provision of wills and estate planning services. Equally, she ensured all the solicitors in Russell & Russell’s probate department were members of Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE) as well as Dementia Friends, an Alzheimer's Society initiative which helps people and organisations learn more about what it is like to live with dementia.
Outside work, Judith enjoys anything to do with mountains - skiing down them or trekking up them. She is a keen walker and loves Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Working Cocker Spaniels. She is also chair of Bolton Hospice and spends a lot of her spare time fund raising for it. In September 2019, Judith was selected to be a Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester.
